The production of today for audience of tomorrow

ValoAurinko ("LightSun") is a co-operative society from Turku which is specialised in youth culture and media. The creators of ValoAurinko are experienced filmmakers Antti and Metsämarja Aittokoski. ValoAurinko is known for multicultural children’s media productions including the movie KittycatCorner’s Kidz (MTV3, film distribution FS Film Oy) and TV- series Zurbaani (TV 2, 10 x 10 min.). 

ValoAurinko is also the only production house in Finland which is specialised in children’s media. Our method of working is new and refreshing. We strive to capture the view of the children instead of watching children from the perspective of adults. We tell their stories in way that children can understand them: related to their own experiences.

The Zurbaani-method
 
With guidance and direction children are given the opportunity to write their own movies. The stories are assembled from fiction, fantasy and real life experiences. Director and the children work together to find different camera angles and perspectives.  This helps the children visualize their ideas. Various environments are used to inspire children’s imagination. Improvisation is used to create authentic characters. After all improvisation is the main aspect of the Zurbaani-method.
